Our Story
Cash's Crew Rescue began with a tiny, rejected foal named Cash who needed round-the-clock care to survive. What started as a mission to save one life has blossomed into a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing donkeys in need.
Cash's remarkable journey captured the hearts of millions online and inspired us to create a place where more donkeys could experience the love, care, and dignity they deserve. Today, we continue that mission by providing rehabilitation, sanctuary, and a forever home to donkeys that have been neglected, abused, or abandoned.
Our Mission
At Cash's Crew Rescue, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and provide a safe haven for abused, neglected, and abandoned donkeys. Inspired by the incredible journey of Cash the Donkey, we are dedicated to showing these misunderstood animals the love and care they deserve while educating the world on just how special donkeys truly are.
Through Cash's Crew Rescue, we are carrying his story forward by providing a second chance to donkeys in need. Through rescue, rehabilitation, education, and advocacy, we are not just saving donkeys; we are changing perceptions and ensuring they receive the love and respect they deserve.
Our Approach
This sanctuary has been built almost entirely by people who chose to be part of it. Our relocation from Florida to Tennessee was carried out largely by supporters and volunteers, most of whom we had never met, who offered their own time and labor. That has remained the pattern of our growth.
Supporters tell us they arrive for the donkeys and stay for the community: several hundred people, most of whom have never met, taking part in work that is plainly doing good. We try to honor that by keeping the sanctuary open and transparent, so members can see for themselves what their support sustains, and by giving them the cameras, the barn updates and a monthly call with the people doing the work.
We have also found that the benefit of this work runs in both directions. Visitors, volunteers, and staff consistently describe time spent with these animals as restorative. Caring for animals recovering from neglect gives something back to the people doing the caring, and we regard that as part of our purpose.
Our operations are sustained today by private donors, monthly memberships, merchandise, farm visits, and grants. Our objective is a sanctuary that generates its own revenue, so the animals in our care are never dependent on a strong fundraising year, or on any single source of support. We are not there yet.

Our Commitment
While our mission is not framed around a single demographic, our commitment to inclusion is very real and very lived. We exist to serve the ones that fall through the cracks: animals and people. Many of the animals we rescue come from neglect, abandonment, poverty, and lack of access to resources, which directly mirrors gaps that exist in underserved and rural communities.
On the human side, our work is intentionally accessible. We welcome people from all backgrounds onto the farm, including volunteers, visitors, donors, and families, and we work hard to make this a place where everyone feels safe, seen, and valued. We partner with local community members, rely on volunteers of all ages and abilities, and keep the farm open to people who would not otherwise have somewhere like it to go.
At its core, our organization is about compassion without conditions. We do not screen for who "deserves" care. We show up where there is need.
