Intake and ownership
Placing an animal with us
Please read this in full before contacting us about placing an animal.
The short version
We are a rescue, not a boarding or retirement facility. Animals accepted into our program are fully surrendered to Cash's Crew. We do not offer owner-assisted retirement, temporary care, or any arrangement where a former owner keeps control over management, visitation, or placement. Every stall, every bale, and every dollar we have is committed to animals who have nowhere else to go. If you are looking for a place to board or retire a horse or donkey you intend to keep owning, we are happy to point you elsewhere, but that is not what we do.
When an animal comes to Cash's Crew, ownership transfers to us permanently. We make the decisions about their care, their companions, their medical treatment, and where they go from here. We do not offer owner-assisted retirement, temporary care, or any arrangement where the former owner keeps a say.
What we cannot offer
- Owner-assisted retirement, or any program where you continue to own the animal
- Temporary care, vacation care, lay-ups, or short-term holding
- Financial hardship boarding
- Any arrangement in which the owner keeps control over the animal's management or future
If you want to keep ownership and decision-making authority, what you are looking for is a boarding, retirement, or sanctuary facility, and you would remain financially responsible for the costs. We are glad to point you toward options in the region if we know of any, but we cannot be a free or subsidized boarding barn. Doing so would take space and feed away from animals who have nowhere else at all.

Intake, surrender and ownership policy
Who we are and what we do
Cash's Crew Rescue exists to give horses and donkeys in need safe, humane care and a responsible place to land. Most of the animals here arrived hungry, hurt, or headed somewhere much worse. Our job is to get them well and then find them the right future.
Our resources are limited and every dollar is spoken for. That is why the animals we take in are surrendered to us completely. We are a rescue, not a boarding barn, not a retirement facility, and not a place to park an animal while you decide what to do next. We say this plainly and up front so that nobody is surprised later.
1. Surrender and transfer of ownership
- Every animal we accept must be legally surrendered through a signed surrender agreement. There are no verbal or informal arrangements.
- Once that agreement is signed, ownership and all decision-making authority transfer to Cash's Crew permanently and irrevocably.
- From that point forward we are responsible for veterinary care, feed, housing, training, rehabilitation, and adoption decisions.
- Surrendering an animal does not create a boarding arrangement, a co-ownership, a lease, or any guarantee that the animal will live out its life on our property.
- Please be certain before you sign. We will not undo a surrender.
2. Care decisions
- Cash's Crew determines what is right for each animal, including feed, turnout, companionship, medical treatment, training, and placement.
- We genuinely want the history. Please tell us everything you know about their past, their injuries, their habits, their triggers, and what has and has not worked. That information helps them and we are grateful for it.
- Sharing that history does not carry decision-making authority with it. Once an animal is surrendered, all final calls are ours.
3. Visitation
- Visits are by appointment only and depend on staff and volunteer availability.
- Frequent visits or drop-ins are not permitted. Please do not come to the property without a scheduled time.
- We may limit or end visitation if it disrupts operations or if it is not in the animal's best interest. Some animals settle better without reminders of where they came from, and we will tell you honestly if that is the case.
- Animals may be moved, fostered, adopted, or transferred to another approved facility at our sole discretion, with or without notice to the former owner.
4. Updates and communication
- We will share occasional updates and photos when we are able, and many of our animals appear in our regular social media and newsletter content.
- We cannot promise scheduled reports, individual check-ins, or the kind of ongoing communication you would receive from a boarding facility. Please do not expect it.
- Our small team spends its hours on animal care. Every hour spent on correspondence is an hour not spent in the barn.
5. What we cannot offer
We are asked for these things often, and the answer is always the same. We are not able to provide:
- Owner-assisted retirement or any program where you continue to own the animal.
- Temporary care, vacation care, lay-ups, or short-term holding.
- Financial hardship boarding.
- Any arrangement in which the owner keeps control over the animal's management or future.
6. Adoption and placement
- Cash's Crew holds the exclusive right to decide when, where, and to whom an animal is adopted or permanently placed.
- Former owners do not retain any right to reclaim an animal, to direct placement, or to approve or veto an adopter, unless we have agreed to something different in writing.
- Adopters go through a full application, reference check, and home visit. We take that process seriously.
7. Respect for our staff and volunteers
- Our volunteers and staff give enormous amounts of time, money, and physical labor to these animals. Many of them are here before sunrise and after dark.
- Harassment, interference with operations, attempts to direct the care of a surrendered animal, or repeated violations of these policies may result in denial of services and an end to communication.
- We will always be honest with you. We ask for the same in return.
8. Our commitment
The welfare of the animals entrusted to us comes before everything else, including our own convenience and including the preferences of the person who brought them here. By surrendering an animal to Cash’s Crew, you are agreeing that our obligation is to that animal’s best interest and that we hold sole authority over their care and their future.
We do not take that lightly. Handing over an animal you love is a hard thing, and choosing to do it because you can no longer give them what they need is an act of love, not failure. We will take good care of them.
If you have read all of it
Sign the acknowledgment
This records that you have read and understood the policy above. It is a normal part of talking to us about placing an animal, and it saves going through all of it twice.
This does not surrender an animal.
The acknowledgment is separate from the surrender agreement and does not by itself transfer ownership. Nothing you sign on this website moves an animal anywhere. Surrender happens through a separate signed agreement, in person, once we have spoken.
