Ruthie

Rescue story

Ruthie is Levi's mama. We pulled the two of them out of a ship pen in Tennessee, along with one other girl who had already lost her foal before we could get there. Ruthie was scared for a long time after she got here. Scared of us, scared of what was coming next, and who could blame her for that. What changed her was watching us love on her son. She saw it, day after day, and slowly she decided we might be alright. Now she lets me love on her too, gently and on her terms, and it is one of the things I am proudest of. She is such a good mama. She always was. She just needed somebody to prove to her that she could stop bracing for the worst.
